Foodie heaven on the Costa del Sol

These positions were decided by a panel of culinary experts in order to establish the world’s premier dining experiences.
Why foodies want to own real estate on the Costa del Sol
Gourmands who have already relocated, or regularly visit the Costa del Sol, will already be familiar with the high-quality dining options and internationally acclaimed chefs. One of the most high-profile culinary stars, is Málaga born Michelin starred chef Daní Garcia has been collecting culinary awards for his innovative cuisine and mantra of “local thinking, global cuisine” for many years. Today, he is still at the top of his game with an impressive array of establishments to his name, including Tragabuches, Bibo, Lobito de Mar, Leña, La Cabane and Smoked Room.
Of course, Daní Garcia is just one of many highly acclaimed chefs, the Costa del Sol is home to an impressive array of Michelin starred restaurants, there are in fact eight dotted along this beautiful coastline. Back, Skina, Messina and Nintai in Marbella, Kaleja and Restaurante José Carlos García are in Málaga city, Bardal is a hidden gem located in picturesque inland town of Ronda. There is also the superb restaurant Sollo, located in the Reserva El Higueron Resort above Fuengirola. Each chef specialises in their own individual style of cookery, from modern creative to sustainable and Japanese.
Why is Spanish cuisine so highly regarded?
Southern Spain is not only blessed with beautiful villas and beaches, there is an abundance of natural resources which combine to create the region’s unique and tasty cuisine. The Mediterranean diet, comprising fresh fruit, vegetables, fish, and olive oil, is feted all over the world for its health benefits and for promoting longevity.

Marbella has the best sushi in Spain
If you were in doubt of the diversity of the type of cuisine available, look no further than Sergio Solís. This 26-year-old Marbella based chef has just been named as the best sushi chef in Spain. The award was bestowed by the prestigious Itame Belfegó annual sushi competition for professional chefs throughout Spain. Second and third places were taken by chefs from Barcelona and Madrid.
Sergio, head chef at Ta-Kumi Japanese restaurant since 2017, won this coveted title by demonstrating his unique talents whilst preparing tuna. As the winner of the Spanish award, he will now go on to represent Spain in the wider European competition.
Fuengirola has the best seafood restaurant in Europe
Equally impressive, Fuengirola seafood and fish restaurant Los Marinos Jose has been named as the best in Europe by the Opinionated About Dining (OAD) guide. This family-owned restaurant owned by three brothers has recently been revamped and reopened, making this award a much-deserved seal of approval. Joining Los Marinos Jose on Top 100 list are two other Spanish restaurants; D’Berto and Elkano, which were awarded silver and bronze respectively.
Culinary cornucopia
In addition to these award winners, there are many more exciting restaurants on the Costa del Sol. There are far too many to mentioned, but it would be impossible not to mention the enormous choice of restaurants, cafes and bars within the Puente Romano Beach Resort on Marbella’s Golden Mile, including the iconic Italian restaurant Cipriani or the new Marbella branch of El Pimpi, the Málaga institution co-owned by actor Antonio Banderas or a taste of Peruvia at the Coya Restaurant , and Pisco Bar.
In 2023 the Coast welcomed a host of new restaurants offering everything from Italian to fusion Mediterranean and Japanese, as served at Kalma & Kaos from the stable of the Magna Spain Group on Estepona’s New Golden Mile. There are also culinary and designer collaborations, between celebrity chef Daní Garcia and Italian fashion designers Dolce & Gabbana at La Cabane.
